Wall displays immerse users in large, ultra-high resolution information spaces. However, creating efficient interactions for wall displays with traditional devices is a challenge. By relying on the manipulation of physical objects, tangible interaction is a promising approach to interact with wall displays.
This thesis presents three contributions on tangible interaction with wall displays.
The first project, WallTokens, proposes tangibles that allow interaction on the surface of wall displays while the second, SurfAirs, allows interaction on the surface and at a distance from wall displays. Empirical studies show a gain in speed, precision and comfort compared to bare hand gestures. The third project proposes a literature review on tangibles used with displays and discusses the challenges underlying the design of tangibles in the context of a multi-display environment
